The Detroit Lions are moving on from offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. According to Albert Breer Womens Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , the team will not renew Cooter’s contract, which expired at the end of the season. The move comes after the Lions offense had been completely ineffective over the past couple months. Though the Lions offense finished strong against the Green Bay Packers, it came off the heels of six straight games in which the Lions failed to score more than 20 points. Cooter joined the team in 2014 as Matthew Stafford’s quarterback coach. He took over offensive coordinator duties midway through the 2015 season after the Lions fired Joe Lombardi. Cooter endeared himself to Detroit after Stafford’s career was immediately revitalized. Stafford under Lombardi: 61.7 % completions, 7.1 Y/A, 34 TDs, 21 INTs, 86.0 passer ratingStafford under Cooter (2015-16): 66.6% completions Womens Miles Killebrew Jersey , 7.5 Y/A, 44 TDs, 14 INTs, 97.5 passer ratingBut all that magic has worn off over the past few years. The Lions offense is the worst it has been in years, Stafford has regressed considerably, and despite an improved running game, Detroit is scoring fewer points than ever. Cooter has had to deal with a severe decline in talent due to injuries and questionable roster moves—both things obviously out of his control—but in an age where offenses seem more innovative and complicated Womens Devon Kennard Jersey , Cooter’s gameplans failed to develop and evolve. Instead, Cooter appeared to grow more and more conservative as his tenure continued and tried to fit square peg players in his already establish round holes.Cooter is now the second Lions coach from 2018 that won’t be with the team going forward. Earlier in the season, special teams coach Joe Marciano was relieved of his duties. UPDATE: The Lions have made it official: Matt Prater will be 35 by the start of the 2019 season. How many years does he have left?EDTShareTweetShareShareWednesday open thread: How many years does Matt Prater have left in the tank?Mark Konezny-USA TODAY SportsAs a Lions fan, it can be easy to forget the sheer value of having a good kicker. 2014 was a valuable lesson in that regard, as the kicking abilities (or lack thereof) of Nate Freese and Alex Henery cost the Lions games that would eventually be the difference between winning the division and coming in second to the Packers despite an 11-5 record. Since October of 2014, the Lions have been blessed with the trusty cannon-leg of Matt Prater Kerryon Johnson Jersey , who has had a field goal percentage a shade over 86 percent since joining the team despite his constant deployment from what many teams would consider to be outside of reasonable field goal range. Prater’s getting up there in age, however. He’ll turn 35 years old on August 10, and while he was still objectively a strong kicker last year, he showed clear signs of not having the power he had in years past. So, that begs the question:How many years does Matt Prater have left in the tank?My answer: Two more seasons. Prater is under contract with the Lions for two more years, and for a relatively cheap price for a kicker of his caliber. He’s still probably in the top half of the league in power and accuracy, and even if he declines in the former Womens A'Shawn Robinson Jersey , an accurate kicker is hard to find. I don’t think the Lions will re-sign Prater to a contract that would start when he’s 37, but I don’t think they’ll go out of their way to replace him so long as his leg strength is serviceable. Your turn.
