The Carolina Panthers probably got one of the worst of the bunch, and I personally believed that there couldn’t possibly be an uglier hat. So to that end, I started searching the internet in pursuit of some that might be even worse. I did lay out some ground rules to try and keep things fair.The hats must have the current logo and be available for purchase. We all know we had some truly grotesque creations back in the mid 90s with our electric font. With the new logo, we should have moved on. We did not.The hats must be standard baseball cap style.The hats cannot be simply alternately colored versions of a basic hat. For example, a red Panthers hat and logo made to coordinate with a specific outfit. I made one exception to this, which you’ll see in a moment.Without further adieu... here are my findings:10. New Era 2018 NFL Draft hat “Two States One Team”neweracap.comNew Era is going to be responsible for a lot of hats on this list, and they are forming a tradition of terrible draft hats. Everyone loves a nice bulky embroider of a slogan that only the Carolina Panthers find helpful in marketing themselves to two separate states. The problem, is that a person lives in just one of those two states, if at all. 9. New Era Carolina Panthers Color Rush 9FIFTY Snapbackneweracap.comThe problem with blotting out the entire Panthers logo into one color, is that the logo relies on the different colors to provide a 3D contour to the face of the Panther. This one is particularly bad, because it makes the Panther look like someone hit it in the nose with a baseball bat.8. New Era “When you stroke your Panthers head too hard”http://www.officialpanthersfootballauthentic.comIt’s like someone drew the team logo, but then sprayed it with water so that everything sagged. Or, it looks like my cat when I pet his head too firmly. Either way, leave the logo alone!7. Carolina Panthers Galaxy Snapback Hathttp://www.soundincentive.orgThis hat would probably be the ugliest hat, if it weren’t clearly intended to be ostentatious. There is a big difference between designing a hat to stand out by being hideous, and designing a hat that you think looks good which is actually hideous. This is the former Wes Horton Color Rush Jersey , and would probably be championed by children, hipsters ironically watching sports, and millennials.6. New Era Carolina Panthers Zubaz Allover 9TWENTY Adjustableneweracap.comFor that time when you’re a Panther trying to blend in with a herd of electric blue Zebras, this would be perfect. We are starting to tread into “Myrtle Beach Strip Hat” territory here, and also in this next one...5. New Era Carolina Panthers Marbled 9FIFTY Snapbackneweracap.comOkay. Now THIS is classic Myrtle Beach. Take something decent and airbrush the hell out of it, more stylish, right? Now let’s go eat terrible eggs at a “Famous Pancake House,” relax on 5 square feet of beach, and sit in traffic for an hour between each.4. New Era Carolina Panthers 2019 Draft Spotlight 59FIFTY Fittedneweracap.comThis is an alternate version of the much talked about 2019 Draft hat from New Era, and honestly, it’s a vast improvement over the blocky mess of the official one. Keeping things together in one color, that I’m guessing is supposed to represent the dark blue that both states share in their flags (even though that isn’t this particular blue), helps to keep this one cleaner looking. It still bothers me that the logos are not centered over each other, and that really this was ever attempted in the first place.2.
