I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. There’s not really anything groundbreaking today in terms of Jet news, as fans are still clamoring for the team to shore up the Center and Cornerback positions. Unlike most fans, I don’t think either happens. Perhaps a lowly C is signed in FA, but even if Stefan Wisniewski joins the team I’m not really sure if it’s ideal to have him starting in that position either. He hasn’t played the Center in a couple years and we’ve seen how having an older player who doesn’t play the position full-time goes. In regards to Cornerback, I fully believe Daryl Roberts will take the next step and become a serviceable, if not above average CB2. Dare I say he will have a breakout year. I understand I’m in the minority in that regard, but I think Trumaine Johnson should have a bigger question mark over his name. A CB being paid that much money to play so poorly is one of the worst moves I’ve seen from Mike Maccagnan. Without a doubt Johnson needs to increase his level of play if he wishes to remain on the team—or any team—for the remainder of his career. Sam Darnold could be the savior of Mac’s job, but players like Johnson could be an added reason as to why he loses it. With that, here are your links for the team this Thursday.Manish Mehta - Jets Mailbag: The offseason mistake that Gang Green can’t afford to make againMike Kaye - NFL rumors: Jay Ajayi to Panthers or Vikings? How did I rank them, you might ask? Good question! I stacked them up according to their scores as calculated by my genius formula — proven to be 100% accurate and 0% arbitrary!Players earned points for accomplishing any of the following while in a Jets uniform:50 points for a first team All-Pro appearance25 points for a Pro Bowl appearance1 point for each point of Approximate Value (via Pro Football Reference - a number that aims to calculate a player’s total value)0.5 points for each regular season game playedYesterday, I continued the rankings at #2 with Darrelle Revis. Let’s move up to the green and white throne at #1!#11 - Jerricho Cotchery (94.5 points)#10 - Sione Pouha (107 points)#9 - Laveranues Coles (110.5 points)#8 - Bryan Thomas (141.5 points)#7 - Muhammad Wilkerson (148.5 points)#6 - David Harris (174 points)#5 - John Abraham (208.5 points)#4 - D’Brickashaw Ferguson (224 points)#3 - Shaun Ellis (226 points)#2 - Darrelle Revis (413 points)#1 - NICK MANGOLD441 points: 84 approximate value (tied for third among all Jets draft picks since 2000), 164 regular season games played (second), seven Pro Bowl appearances, two first team All-Pro appearancesPhoto by Jim McIsaac/Getty ImagesBorn in Centerville, Ohio and attended high school in Kettering, OhioSelected 29th overall by the Jets in the first round of the 2006 Draft (Ohio State)Played entire career with Jets from 2006-16Fast facts (Stats are regular season only unless otherwise indicated)Mangold is tied for seventh in league history in Pro Bowl appearances by a center, with seven. He is also second in Pro Bowl appearances for the Jets, behind only Winston Hill Youth Blake Cashman Jersey , who was named to eight Pro Bowls.Weird fact: Mangold collected nine tackles in his career, making him the all-time Jets leader among offensive linemen. D’Brickashaw Ferguson is a close second with eight. Mangold checks in tied for 17th on the NFL’s all-time list for tackles among offensive linemen. The more you know!Over his final five seasons in the league (70 games), Mangold committed a shockingly low total of only four penalties. From 2012-16, he never committed more than one flag in a season. How good is that? In 2018, Spencer Long and Jonotthan Harrison combined for nine penalties at the center position! Mangold had 10 penalties over his final 100 regular season games! For his career, Mangold averaged only 1.95 total penalties per 16 games.Photo by Tom Berg/NFLPhotoLibraryPhoto by Rick Stewart/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jarrett Baker/Getty ImagesPhoto by Rick Stewart/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesPhoto by Elsa/Getty ImagesPhoto by Christian Petersen/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty ImagesPhoto by Peter Aiken/Getty ImagesPhoto by Thomas B.
