Deon Cain knows the questions are coming and he is looking forward to answering them this week at the NFL draft combine.
Cain played three seasons at Clemson and was productive receiver for a team that made three playoff appearances and played in two national championship games. Cain played in only one of those national championship games. After the regular season of his freshman year Cowboys Elite Jerseys , he was suspended for the College Football Playoff by Tigers coach Dabo Swinney for failing a drug test for marijuana.
For the last six weeks, Cain has been training at the Exos performance center in Phoenix. He has added about 10 pounds of lean muscle to his 6-foot-1 frame, thanks to a high protein diet. He believes he could run a sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash after all the speed work he did at Exos. But none of that will likely be as important as how he answers questions from NFL executives and coaches in Indianapolis about that suspension.
Cain has a simple plan: "Just to be honest. Just got to face the facts. I know I did it."
Cain is projected to be a second-day selection during the NFL's three-day draft, which starts April 26. Bleacher Report draft analyst Matt Miller said Cain currently has a solid round-two grade. Dane Brugler from NFL Draft Scout said he had Cain going in round three. Lance Zierlein of NFL gives Cain a second-round projection and compares him to former Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White, who made the Pro Bowl four times in an 11-year career.
A five-star prospect out of Tampa Bay Technical High School in Florida when he came to Clemson, enrolling early with an eye toward early graduation. He had 34 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games as a freshman, helping the Tigers overcome the loss of star receiver Mike Williams to injury in the season opener.
Two days before Clemson played Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl, he was sent home for violating team rules. He had failed a drug test.
"Came in as a freshman and had a lot going on on the personal side," Cain said. "I just had to figure out and mature myself. I'm actually glad that did happen because I could have run away from the situation and let it hunt me down if I'd went to another school."
Cain stewed watching Clemson lose the national championship game in Arizona to Alabama. He fumed over Swinney's decision to suspend him. He considered transferring.
Cain's mother, Celia Thompson, was not having that. Cain stuck it out. The suspension went through the spring and he had to take part in a three-month treatment program.
"I got tested multiple times in there to make sure I was clean," Cain said. "That really set my head straight on Brian O'Neill Jersey , really focused on what I wanted to do. At the end of the day I felt great about myself and my family was very proud of me of how I did it. Nobody really expected me to do that. I had to change myself and change my environment."
Cain was reinstated May 2016. That season he caught 38 passes for 724 yards (19.1 per catch) and nine touchdowns. The Tigers went back the national championship game for a rematch against Alabama, this time in Cain's hometown of Tampa at Raymond James Stadium.
"Just walking in that stadium, it was like a dream come true," he said.
And the Tigers won the national championship.
Cain put in one more solid season, with 58 catches for 734 yards and six touchdowns while Clemson broke in new starting quarterback Kelly Bryant. Having earned a degree in communications, Cain left his last year of eligibility behind.
At Exos, Cain upped his weight to between 205 and 208 pounds. And he thinks he can blow up the 40 on Saturday, when the receivers do on-field drills at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"I definitely want to run a good 40, low 4.3s, 4.2s," Cain said. That kind of speed is rare and could make Cain a first-rounder 鈥?as long as he can convince teams his troubles are in the past. He is as confident he could do that as he is in his speed.
"I still just want to thank God that he put me through those trials to get me where I am right," he said.

Bob Quinn has spent two years reshaping the Detroit Lions' roster and staff Customized Chicago Bears Jerseys , bringing in players and coaches he knew from their years together with the New England Patriots.
The Lions have won nine games in each of the past two seasons, which wasn't enough for Jim Caldwell to keep his job. Quinn believes they will be drafting from a position of strength.
"With the way the roster is today, I don't think I'm in a position to reach for any position of so-called need," Quinn insisted. "I'm not eliminating any position."
The Lions would stun everyone if they took a quarterback No. 20 overall Thursday night with many millions invested in Matthew Stafford, or a wide receiver with more than a few options on the team. They could justify bolstering coach Matt Patricia's first team at any other position, especially defensive end and offensive guard.
UP FRONT
The Lions were last in the league in rushing and have been among the NFL's worst offensively on the ground in recent years. Even if they made a bold move to trade up and select Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, it may not matter if the offensive line doesn't improve. There seem to be four solid blockers: tackles Taylor Decker and Ricky Wagner, guard T.J. Lang and center Graham Glasgow. The team's fifth option, Wesley Johnson, isn't likely an attractive option; the New York Jets didn't want to re-sign him.
That may all add up to Detroit drafting a guard or center in the first round.
"I have no problem taking an interior offensive lineman," Quinn said.
ON THE EDGE
Detroit desperately needs help at defensive end because Ezekiel Ansah is playing on a franchise tag, possibly in his last year with the team. Quinn plans to make picks based on what the team will need up to 18 months away.
"We kind of look that far Cheap Josey Jewell Jersey , knowing that guys are going to be unrestricted free agents after this year, but also the following year," Quinn said. "There's a really good balance there that we have to talk about and kind of envision our needs not just for today, but in the years ahead."
The other options at defensive end such as Anthony Zettel and Kerry Hyder, who missed all of last season with an Achilles tendon injury, don't generate much excitement.
MAYBE LATER
Quinn may choose a running back in a later round, hoping to find a flyer. He did add another former Patriot, LeGarrette Blount, to the position to compete with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick.
"If we had to go play a football game today, I think we have enough running backs to be competitive," Quinn said.

Patricia is an NFL head coach for the first time entering the draft, but he has a lot of experience with Quinn because they worked together with the Patriots for a dozen years.
"I had heard about Matt from Bob for two years before we had the chance to meet Authentic Paul Worrilow Jersey ," Lions president Rod Wood said, sitting between Quinn and Patricia at a season ticket holders gathering. "I told him recently, 'I think he undersold him, and he was selling him.' The relationship is strong, the language they speak, the trust. The ability I think to build the team through kind of one long-term vision of what we're going to be about.
"This is probably the first time I've sat between them since they've been in town. They're together all the time."
HITS, MISSES AND BARGAINS
Detroit appeared to reach for tight end Eric Ebron at No. 10 overall in 2014. This offseason, the team acknowledged the mistake when it cut him. The Lions would have been better off with any of the players taking immediately after Ebron: offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Quinn landed a late-round gem last season, selecting All-Pro punt returner Jamal Agnew in the fifth round.
