OSU got a taste of its own medicine While examining all the factors to explain its 45 40 defeat to Kansas State, OSU coach Mike Gundy determined that the Wildcats used the familiar formula of opportunistic defense Dan Bailey Jersey, special teams points and just enough big plays on offense to win.
“We lost the turnover battle and we gave up seven points on special teams,” Gundy said on Monday. “We had seven three and outs on defense, but we gave up four big plays. They used the formula we’ve used for years around here.”
In each of its three losses, the Cowboys have had a negative turnover differential, which ranks 65th nationally.
Additionally, OSU fell to 6 3 when the opponent gains 300 or more yards in total offense. Kansas State, a group that ranked 93rd in the country in scoring prior to last Saturday https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/marquez-white-jersey-c-32.html, piled up 421 yards and a Big 12 season high in points.
“We got a little bit of our own medicine,” Gundy said. “In the end, what it came down to was the seven points on the kickoff return.” Mason Rudolph will leave Oklahoma State with 32 school records https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/darnell-leslie-jersey-c-33.html, the most wins by an OSU quarterback and nominations for several national awards.
It is why his head coach says the senior is the most decorated player to come through the program since his running back teammate 30 years ago.
“He will leave here as the most decorated player since Barry Sanders, in my opinion,” Gundy said. “ Rudolph has won a ton of games. He plays with broken ribs https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/keith-smith-jersey-c-34.html, he’s played with a broken foot. I think he’s leading the nation in passing. He felt terrible after the game. He would have liked to hit a couple of more passes. And, he’s been tremendous for this school and tremendous in society.”
Bowl destinations not as appealing now With its stunning loss to Kansas State as a three touchdown favorite last Saturday, Oklahoma State went from possibly playing in a New Year’s Six bowl to a late December matchup in Texas or Florida.
It is a shocking turn of events for a group that seemed destined to at least finish the regular season with 10 wins.
The bowl destinations aren’t as appealing as they were just a week ago, after the Cowboys survived Iowa State in Ames.Several bowl projections have OSU currently in either the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio for the second consecutive season or the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Florida, both played on Dec. 28.
