VIENTIANE， Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Enhancing liveability within the major urban areas of South--East Asia was on the agenda as civic leaders of some ten Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) capitals met in Laos Tuesday.


Urban issues such as transportation， traffic congestion and accidents were high on the agenda as governors and mayors of Bangkok， Bandar Seri Begawan， Jakarta， Hanoi， Kuala Lumpur， Manila， Naypyidaw， Phnom Penh， Singapore and Vientiane gathered in the Lao capital for their fourth meeting.


Food security and safety and organic food production were on the agenda alongside various green city initiatives while cooperation between the capitals to exploit synergies in tourism and industry development， capacity building and skills training and labor exchange were also discussed.


The 4th Meeting of GovernorsMayors of the Capitals of ASEAN is one of the multilateral meetings being held in Laos as per its 2016 chairmanship of the 10--member grouping， a role set to be assumed by The Philippines in 2017.

However, some studies also suggest that most of its benefits come from making people feel more relaxed whenever they take a medical derivative of cannabis. While research shows that the use of marijuana shows no reduction muscle spasticity, scientific claims have been made for the use of cannabis in treating asthma, headaches, migraine, stroke, Alzheimers disease, and even Parkinson’s disease. A number of rehabilitation facilities also use it to help patients overcome alcoholism.
Does cannabis cure cancer?
No one has probably imagined that someday, cannabis may serve as a glint of hope for cancer patients. Government officials of the United States have deliberately ignored the research indicating that cannabis cures cancer by inhibiting the growth of certain malignant tumors. A recent publication of three clinical studies also revealed that the medicinal value of marijuana is actually far greater than ever assumed. While the powerful compounds in cannabis have already been used to alleviate the pain caused by cancer and other health conditions, some studies also confirmed its capability of preventing tumor cells from getting out of control.
Last year, over five scientific journals have already published their findings to confirm the belief that cannabis cures cancer. A trial data published in the Journal of the American Society of Clinical Investigation confirmed that cannabinoids may inhibit the growth of skin tumor in mice. Scientists who conducted the study confirmed that the local administration of cannabis cures cancer, thus making it an alternative approach to curing non-melanoma skin cancer. In the 2003 issue of FASEB Journal, the local administration of cannabis derivatives also inhibited the tissue growth of brain tumors. These studies continue to spark the curiosity of those who wish to uncover the medical value of marijuana use.
In the October 2003 issue of Nature Reviews Cancer, a clinical review also concluded that cannabis cures cancer by inhibiting the growth of tumors that may cause thyroid epithelioma, lung cancer, leukemia, uterus cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer. It also concluded that marijuana can cure neuroblastoma, a malignant tumor that originates in the automatic nervous system and occurs more often in young children and infants. Finally, the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics also concluded that the administration of a cannabis derivative may stop the growth of cancer cells.

SYDNEY, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The mystery of a famous 3,700-year-old Babylonian clay tablet, once owned by the real ""Indiana Jones,"" has been unlocked by an Australian mathematician, it was revealed Friday.


Dr. Daniel Mansfield's findings from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, is now the oldest example of an accurate trigonometric tablet, beating out Pythagoras and the better known Greek mathematicians by more than 1,000 years.


The tablet was originally discovered in the Ottoman Empire (now modern day Iraq) between 1900-1910 by Edgar Banks and has baffled the world's leading historians and researchers for over a century.
