President Mahama made the announcement when players and technical handlers of the team, which placed second at the just-ended tourney, met him at the Flagstaff House in Accra.


The Black Stars lost 9-8 to Cote d'Ivoire in a dramatic penalty shootout last Sunday in the Equatorial Guinea city of Bata.


The package has been put together by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the headline sponsors of the Black Stars.


"GNPC has asked me to announce that they will give a reward of 25,000 dollars to each of you as a reward for the great work that you have done," he told the players.


He congratulated the Stars for their spirited display in the 16-nation tournament saying "the Black Stars have restored our confidence in the senior national football team" .


He said other sponsors had come forward to reward the team for their gallant display at the three-week competition but that would be made public soon.


This is Ghana' s second silver medal after losing to Egypt in the finals of the 2010 AFCON in Angola.
