How did his role change throughout the year, and what should we expect next season?Nick Bellore, FBExpectations before 2018Originally a linebacker, Bellore filled in at fullback for the Detroit Lions after they experimented with defensive end Alex Barrett. In very limited snaps in 2017 (13 snaps on offense), Bellore totaled a single catch: a 1-yard touchdown.In the seventh round of 2018 NFL Draft, the Lions took San Diego State fullback Nick Bawden, and he was largely expected to fill the need at fullback, rendering Bellore a likely cut candidate. Bellore’s path to the roster was slated to be via special teams.Actual role in 20182018 Stats: 1 carry for 0 yards (0.0 YPC), 0 TDs, 4 receptions for 15 yardsPFF Grade: 60.4 (Didn’t qualify for rankings)To Bellore’s benefit, Bawden tore his ACL in June, thus opening the door at fullback. There was still some debate as to whether or not the Lions would even opt to carry a fullback on the roster, but Bellore won the job out of training camp.Offensively Sam Martin Jersey White , little was expected from him. In terms of blocking, Bellore actually performed decently, finishing as the 10th-best run blocking fullback. Of his 119 snaps on offense, 86 of them came as a run blocker, 26 of them came as a receiver, 6 came as a pass blocker, and only 1 came as a runner. Bellore actually had an excellent pass blocking grade, but it is too small of a sample size to truly represent his performance. The 26 snaps as a receiver is somewhat surprising for the former linebacker; Bellore was even split out wide on a few plays.Bellore’s most significant role was on special teams, recording 7 solo tackles — the most among special teamers — on 236 snaps. He was quite effective as well, finishing as the 8th highest graded Lion on special teams; of the players above him, only Tracy Walker recorded over 200 snaps.Outlook for 2019Contract Status: Unrestricted free agentBellore is an impending free agent, but he will likely demand a minimal contract. Even with Nick Bawden slated to return after a full year of recovery, the Lions could bring Bellore back for his special teams ability. The Lions are unlikely to carry two fullbacks heading into next season, but there is a chance that Bellore could covert back to linebacker if they wanted to keep both. Bawden isn’t a roster lock either — with a good enough performance in training camp, perhaps Bellore could unseat him as the starting fullback. Another loss T.J. The Detroit Lions don’t appear to be progressing much, and it’s harder to get excited about individual performances when even the best players on the team are talking about how horribly they played.But despite the disheartening loss to the Chicago Bears, we must hand out our Game Ball. Harrison once again led the charge with a team-high six tackles.As a crew, the Lions held a Bears team that was averaging over 4.4 yards per carry and 128 rushing yards per game to just 54 rushing yards at 2.5 YPC. This was the seventh best run offense by DVOA standards, so this was truly an impressive performance.Kerryon JohnsonStats: 14 rushes, 51 yards, 1 TD; 6 catches, 38 yards, 1 TDSure, the rookie’s fumble was costly for Detroit, but for the rest of the game Johnson showed why he can be electric. With rushing lanes few and far between, Johnson made the first defender miss almost every single time he touched the ball. He was a first down machine A'Shawn Robinson Jersey White , and although he didn’t hit 4.0 YPC, I think it’s fair to say he had an efficient game on the ground, all other factors considered. Quandre DiggsStats: 3 tackles, 1 pass defendedOn a day in which the Lions secondary was truly awful, even a mediocre performance stands out. Diggs was clearly the most talented defensive back on the field for Detroit and he showed why he’s still a fierce defender is the run and short passing game: He also had a nice pass breakup in the end zone, which was one of just two on the day for the entire Lions defense.Kenny GolladayStats: 6 catches (13 targets), 70 yards, TDWith Golden Tate gone, it’s starting to look like Kenny Golladay will assume the majority of targets—not Marvin Jones Jr. Golladay wasn’t particularly efficient with his looks, but he did make a couple of really nice grabs on Sunday, including this one: Matt PraterStats: 1/1 FG (52 yarder), 1/1 XPPrater lost the “How many times can you hit the upright?” contest 4-0, but a 52-yard field goal at Soldier Field is no easy task, and he deserves some props.
