NAIVASHA Women's Tremaine Edmunds Jersey , Kenya, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC)'s Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on Friday to drop charges against Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has been received with mixed reactions in Kenya.


Residents in Naivasha, which was one of the epicenter of the post election violence and home to Internally Displaced Person (IDPs), welcomed it with pomp, songs and dance in various camps around the lakeside town.


However, victims of the Naivasha violence expressed their anger and disappointment after years of waiting for justice.


Over 50 people were killed in Naivasha and hundreds of others displaced during the violence that hit the town on January 27 Women's Josh Allen Jersey , 2008.


According to Rosemary Muthoni from an IDP camp in Gilgil, the move was long overdue as Kenyatta was never involved in the violence.


Muthoni, who was evicted from Kericho at the height of the violence, said the real perpetrators of the violence were never arrested.


"We are shedding tears of joy after the charges against the president were dropped and we hope that one day the real perpetrators will be arrested," she said.


Bensouda withdrew the charges against Kenyatta for crimes against humanity during the 2007-2008 post poll violence on Friday.


She said she did not have enough evidence to take him to trial. "The evidence has not improved to such an extent that Kenyatta's alleged criminal responsibility can be proven beyond reasonable doubt," Bensouda added.

Trial judges had also given the prosecutor one week to decide whether she would proceed with the case or withdraw the charges.

At various IDP camps in Mai Mahiu and Gilgil in northwest of Nairobi, it was tears of joy as the victims of the violence danced and went on their knees for prayers.


Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto Vontae Davis Jersey , whose trial with that of radio journalist Joshua Sang has been ongoing, were accused of bearing the greatest responsibility in the 2008 post election violence where more than 1,300 people were killed and some 600,00 others displaced.

But in South Lake Naivasha where many victims of the Naivasha violence live, there was a sullen mood as residents discussed the issue in hushed tones.

Omolo accused the ICC prosecution for the drop in the charges, adding that the victims of the Naivasha violence were still living in pain. "We were never compensated like other IDPs and now our only hope of getting justice has been dashed and all we can do is seek divine intervention."


On Omolo's part, Irene Akoth who lost a brother in the violence, said though the case had been withdrawn Harrison Phillips Jersey , they would not forget or forgive the perpetrators.


Akoth expressed her bitterness, noting that years after the violence they were yet to get peace of mind and they were still mentally tormented.


"We now know that there is justice for the rich and the poor in this country, and since there is nothing we can do we have to move on," she said.
